The waves crashed against the rocks below him and flashes of those he once knew and loved flooded the old man’s mind. As the cold sea hissed up at him, brief moments of pointless, joyous laughter and carefree nights faded into empty rooms. The blurred, vague silhouettes grew steadily smaller.
He hit the water.
The light flickered overhead as he sank deeper. He could no longer hear the roar of the waves above him. This was his price to pay. As darkness surrounded him, the spinning light high above him slowed, and finally went out.
