It's only human to not understand something you've never experienced.
Take for instance, the color 'blue'. No amount of words can tell you what it looks like unless you've seen it with your own eyes. I could try describing all i want, though honestly it would be just naive of me to. But instead i could tell you what it feels like - to see the blue of the sparkling ocean, to see it in a lover's eyes - and that would probably make a lot more sense to you than anything else. Quite often we get fixated on an event while narrating it without realizing that sometimes, the emotion it originally evoked can be far more powerful than the event in itself.
So yes, the music was never meant to be an insight into my experiences. But it will tell you how I felt at the time I wrote it, and that's all I ever wanted.
